  • Halloween 2024

Halloween is almost upon us, and we invite you to dress up for the day. That’s right! On Thursday, October 31st, we encourage you to liven up the building with your best costumes. Faculty and staff will be keeping an eye out for and offering silly prizes for best outfits (individual and group categories, with special shout-outs to those of you who think up awesome law-related costumes!).

    Dear students:

The law school is excited to host our fourth annual Halloween celebration! We know how hard you all work and are excited to enjoy a day that brings back some fun.

First: costumes! We encourage costumes, especially those related to law & legal themes. Deans will have little prizes for great costumes, so be sure you show off around the building!

When you arrive to the building on Thursday 10/31 feel free to grab a Halloween “passport” from the stations located in the lobby as well as the 2nd and 3rd floor galleries.

These passports tell you which suites/offices are hosting trick or treat stations. Note that the Undergrad Program at 3401 Market St., Suite 202 will also be participating!

For every suite you visit, get a sticker for your passport as well as some treats.

Drop off completed passports in the lobby at the end of the day and be entered in a drawing for a small prize.

In addition to the suites, plenty of individual faculty will host trick or treating at their offices. Look for the pumpkin on doors throughout the building.

Please ONLY visit those doors marked with a pumpkin! Otherwise folks may be in meetings, giving presentations, or doing other important work, so be respectful!!

What makes a good costume? Be thoughtful and sensible. Remember that you will still be attending classes and interacting with others in the building. Avoid costumes that make us question your character and fitness, such as using someone's ethnicity/culture/religion as a costume, making light of serious social issues, and so on. Keep things fun, light, and appropriate so everyone can enjoy the day. And please refrain from simulated or real weapons as part of a costume because putting us on lockdown will harsh everyone’s fun!

We can’t wait to enjoy the day with you,
    Deans Corrigan, Boardley, and Oates

  • Research Assistant for Professor Fernando J. Loayza Jordán - Project: Contesting the Fiscal Social Contract

From Professor Fernando J. Loayza Jordán

I am looking for a research assistant for a project that investigates taxation as a social phenomenon. Taxes do much more than move wealth around: they shape how we perceive ourselves and how we connect with our political communities. This research project will study the features of the US fiscal social contract (how US citizens are part of the social contract through paying taxes and voting on taxes) and how it impacts and constrains the US tax policy debate.

The time commitment will be between 6-8 hours weekly, including a weekly meeting with me. Your background in social sciences is more relevant than your knowledge of tax law, so feel free to apply even if you haven't taken tax law courses. Students who qualify for Study Work funding are preferred. If you are interested, please send me your resume and cover letter at fjl38@drexel.edu.
