Stata

Stata is statistical software for data science that provides data manipulation, visualization, statistics, and automated reporting.

Install Stata

Install on a Drexel-owned PC

  Note: If you're working from off campus, you'll need to connect to Drexel's Virtual Private Network (VPN) before you can install Stata from Software Center.

  1. Do one of the following, depending on which version of Windows is running on your PC:
    • In Windows 11, select Start  > All apps > Software Center.
    • In Windows 10, select Start  > Microsoft Endpoint Manager > Software Center.
  2. Under Applications, select Stata 18 > Install.

      Note: Stata is automatically activated when you install the app from Software Center.

Install on a Drexel-owned Mac

  1. Go to Finder > Applications > Self Service.
  2. Sign in with Drexel Connect.
  3. Under Browse, select All.
  4. Locate Stata 18 and select Install.

      Note: Stata is automatically activated when you install the app from Self Service.

Install on a personal-owned PC

  1. Download the Stata installer from OnTheHub. For more info, see Download software from OnTheHub.
  2. Once the download has completed, double-click (or double-tap) the downloaded installer.
  3. If you see the User Account Control prompt that says, Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?, select Yes. You might need to enter an administrator username and password.
  4. On the first installation screen, select Next to begin the installation process.
  5. Review the license agreement. Choose I accept the terms in the license agreement to agree to the license terms, and then select Next.
  6. Complete your user information, and then select Next.
  7. Select StataMP, and then select Next.
  8. Review the install location or change your install location, and then select Next.
  9. Review the default location for saving your Stata-related files or change the default location, and then select Next.
  10. Select Install to begin the installation.
  11. Select Finish when the installation is finished.

Install on a personal-owned Mac

  1. Download the Stata installer from OnTheHub. For more info, see Download software from OnTheHub.
  2. Once the download has completed, double-click the downloaded installer.
  3. Double-click Install Stata.pkg.
  4. On the first installation screen, select Continue to begin the installation process.
  5. Review the end user license agreement, and then select Continue.
  6. Select Agree to agree to the license terms.
  7. Select Stata/MP, and then select Continue.
  8. Review the install location or change your install location, and then select Install.
  9. Enter your Mac login password, if prompted, and then select Install Software.
  10. Select Close when the installation is finished.

Activate Stata on a Drexel-owned PC or Mac

If you have a Drexel-owned PC or Mac, Stata is automatically activated when you install the app from Software Center on PC or Self Service on Mac. Drexel IT will deploy an updated Stata license to your Drexel-owned device annually.

  Note: If you're working from off campus and have a Drexel-owned PC, you'll need to connect to Drexel's Virtual Private Network (VPN) to receive the annually updated Stata license.

Activate Stata on a personal-owned PC or Mac

  1. Open the Stata app:
    • If you have a Windows 11 PC, select Start  > All apps > Stata 18 > StataMP 18.
    • If you have a Windows 10 PC, select Start  > Stata 18 > StataMP 18.
    • If you have a Mac, Go to Finder > Applications > Stata > StataMP.
  2. On the Initialize License screen, complete your user information.
  3. Enter your serial number, code, and authorization key from OnTheHub, and then select Next.
  4. Select Finish when the activation is finished.
