NVivo

NVivo is a leading qualitative data analysis software that helps you find patterns and connections in documents, transcriptions, surveys, and other mediums with unstructured data that is difficult to analyze, such as videos, audio, and images.

  Note: Add-on enhancement modules, such as NVivo Transcription and NVivo Collaboration Cloud, are not included in Drexel's NVivo license.

Install NVivo

Install on a Drexel-owned PC

  Note: If you're working from off campus, you'll need to connect to Drexel's Virtual Private Network (VPN) before you can install NVivo from Software Center.

  1. Do one of the following, depending on which version of Windows is running on your PC:
    • In Windows 11, select Start  > All apps > Software Center.
    • In Windows 10, select Start  > Microsoft Endpoint Manager > Software Center.
  2. Under Applications, select NVivo 14 > Install.

Install on a Drexel-owned Mac

  1. Go to Finder > Applications > Self Service.
  2. Sign in with Drexel Connect.
  3. Under Browse, select All.
  4. Locate NVivo 14 and select Install.

Install on a personal-owned PC

  1. Download the NVivo installer from OnTheHub. For more info, see Download software from OnTheHub.
  2. Once the download has completed, double-click (or double-tap) the downloaded installer.
  3. If you see the User Account Control prompt that says, Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?, select Yes. You might need to enter an administrator username and password.
  4. Select your language, and then select OK.
  5. If prompted to install prerequisite components, select Install.

      Note: A restart might be required.

  6. On the first installation screen, select Next to begin the installation process.
  7. Review the software license agreement. Choose I accept the terms in the license agreement to agree to the license terms, and then select Next.
  8. Review the install location or change your install location, and choose to include an NVivo icon on your desktop, and then select Next.
  9. If prompted, choose the supplementary add-ons that you want to install, and then select Next.
  10. Select Install to begin the installation.
  11. Select Finish when the installation is finished.

Install on a personal-owned Mac

  1. Download the NVivo installer from OnTheHub. For more info, see Download software from OnTheHub.
  2. Once the download has completed, double-click the downloaded installer.
  3. Drag the NVivo app icon to the Applications folder.

Activate NVivo on a Drexel-owned PC or Mac

If you have a Drexel-owned PC or Mac, NVivo is automatically activated when you install the app from Software Center on PC or Self Service on Mac. Drexel IT will deploy an updated NVivo license to your Drexel-owned device annually.

  Note: If you're working from off campus and have a Drexel-owned PC, you'll need to connect to Drexel's Virtual Private Network (VPN) to receive the annually updated NVivo license.

Activate NVivo on a personal-owned PC or Mac

  1. Open the NVivo app:
    • If you have a Windows 11 PC, select Start  > All apps > NVivo 14.
    • If you have a Windows 10 PC, select Start  > NVivo 14.
    • If you have a Mac, Go to Finder > Applications > NVivo 14.
  2. On the Activate NVivo screen, select Or provide enterprise key to activate (at the bottom of the screen).
  3. Enter your license key from OnTheHub.
  4. Review the software license agreement. Choose I agree to the user acknowledgement of license terms to agree to the license terms, and then select Next.
  5. Enter the required information and select Activate.
  6. Select OK when the activation is finished.
  7. If prompted, complete your user profile and select OK.
