News Dragons SOAR: HR’s Yearlong Onboarding Plan for Staff
New Dragons SOAR (Successful Onboarding and Accessible Resources) is Drexel Human Resources’ full-year onboarding plan for new professional staff hires to provide support and information and clarify requirements, in addition to the New Dragon Welcome orientation program that new professional staff members attend shortly after hire.
New Dragons SOAR consists of several connected components:
- An onboarding plan that is assigned to the new professional staff member automatically and consists of instructions and links for the new hire to complete requirements, engage in necessary learning, and acclimate to Drexel. The plan encourages new hires to have periodic check-ins with their manager.
- A series of emails sent upon hire, at 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, six months, nine months, and one year to prompt the new professional staff member to check their onboarding plan and take any required or recommended actions appropriate for their time at Drexel.
- Links to New Dragon Newsletters, also sent at the time periods noted above to provide an ever-widening array of instructions, information, and points of interest, as appropriate for their time at Drexel. Example New Dragon Newsletter
Starting in May 2024, all new professional staff members will have the onboarding plan assigned to their transcripts in Career Pathway. Managers should encourage new hires to refer to the onboarding plan frequently and follow up on the requirements, recommendations and information included in the plan.
Separate from the onboarding plan, managers are responsible for working with new professional staff members to complete an introductory review on or about their 90th day at Drexel. Instructions for introductory reviews are included in an initial email and reminders are sent to managers during the new professional staff member’s first 90 days. For more information on introductory reviews, refer to the Performance Development website.
