Hazard Communication
Communication of hazards is essential to ensure a safe work and learning environment. The majority of research at the University involves the use of chemical, biological and physical hazards.

- Radioactive substances
- Strong magnetic fields
- Lasers
- High voltage
- High pressure
- Heavy machinery
These hazards can cause injuries to individuals working or learning in the research environment. EHRS utilizes pictograms and/or symbols to communicate these hazards to the research personnel. These pictograms and/or symbols are placed on laboratory doors, hazardous material storage areas, hazardous materials and equipment.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 704 label is used to communicate multiple hazards within the laboratory. The University uses this label for laboratory entrance doors. The label uses a color and number code to communicate the degree of the hazards.
