Put Engineering into Practice
Drexel co-op gives CAEE students the opportunity to apply classroom learning in six-month professional positions before graduation. Students gain technical experience, professional judgment, confidence, income, and relationships that can shape their careers.
Co-op also allows students to test different roles, organizations, and work environments before choosing a long-term direction. Along the way, they learn not only what they enjoy and want from a career, but also what may not be the right fit.
What CAEE Students Do on Co-op
Civil Engineering students may contribute to structural analysis and design, transportation planning, construction coordination, field inspections, geotechnical investigations, and water or stormwater projects.
Architectural Engineering students may work on structural building systems, HVAC and mechanical design, energy modeling, BIM coordination, building controls, commissioning, and construction management.
Environmental Engineering students may support water and wastewater treatment, environmental sampling and analysis, air quality projects, remediation and compliance, stormwater design, environmental modeling, and research.
Where Students Work
CAEE students work with engineering and design firms, construction companies, utilities, infrastructure owners, government agencies, environmental organizations, and research and technology groups. Examples include Aqua, EwingCole, Pennoni, Philadelphia Water, and the Philadelphia Streets Department.
Industry Integration Beyond Co-op
Co-op takes students into industry. CAEE also brings industry into the educational experience through guest practitioners, real case studies, project sponsors, technical demonstrations, design reviews, employer feedback, and Industry Days.
