For the third consecutive year, the students of Drexel’s Maternal and Child Health Student Organization (MCHSO) gathered to spread holiday cheer to families in Philadelphia. MCHSO members took some time out of their schedules to come together before finals to create personalized holiday cards. MCHSO 2024 President, Marissa Campbell, distributed the cards on behalf of MCHSO to families at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children before leaving for winter break.

St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, a partnership of Drexel University and Tower Health, is a 188-bed children’s hospital that provides exceptional pediatric care to children from throughout the Greater Philadelphia area. St. Chris has been providing care since 1875 and has a rich history of clinical and academic achievements.

Located in North Philadelphia, St. Chris is in one of the most poverty-stricken congressional districts in the country. Addressing the social determinants of health and providing patient- and family-centered care is central to its mission. The students of MCHSO recognize the tremendous needs within the community served and felt strongly about contributing during the holiday season through this annual tradition.

The cards were shared with children throughout the hospital, including those in the short procedure unit. MCHSO members hope the cards brought smiles to young patients and their families during the holiday season.

“Our holiday card making event is one of my favorite events that MCHSO hosts," said Marissa Campbell, 2024 MCHSO President and MCH trainee. "It's a way to not only come together as an organization at the end of a term, but also warming to be able to spread some holiday cheer and light to children receiving care during the holiday season. We had a great turnout and made cards that hopefully put a smile on some faces!”
