Asian/Asian American Students
Asia is Earth's largest continent and encompasses many countries, ethnicities, and cultures. Some of these countries include China, India, Japan, Pakistan, Taiwan, just to name a few. Asia possesses an abundance of diversity and beauty. For Asian and Asian American students, attending a predominantly White institution (PWI) can offer a unique set of experiences and challenges, as well as cause increased reflection around your identities. Encountering stigma and stereotypes (e.g. model minority myth) can be confusing and frustrating. Asian and Asian American individuals may additionally encounter harassment, discrimination, and hate crimes.
The Counseling Center is committed to anti-racism policies and practices. We understand the complexities of encountering race-based stress in an educational setting and strive to provide safe and confidential spaces where diverse and marginalized identities are understood, welcomed, and embraced.
