Tien Nguyen is a Graduate Dean's Ambassador and a student in Drexel CCI's MS in Data Science program. Learn more about Tien and her experience at Drexel:
CCI: How do you feel your time at Drexel has prepared you for your future career?
Tien Nguyen: The curriculum of my program gave me the opportunity to choose classes from both departments at CCI: Computer Science and Information Science. Through my interdisciplinary coursework, I was able to build a strong foundation, which I’m sure will be very useful in the future. Additionally, Drexel has many career-related workshops and events which have helped to prepare me for interviews as well as make connections with people with diverse backgrounds.
CCI: What are your favorite parts of the MS in Data Science degree program?
TN: Firstly, the data science program itself. The master’s in data science program has many electives to choose from, which allowed me to learn different topics while still fulfilling the program requirements. Secondly, the diversity. At Drexel CCI, I met people from all different backgrounds – professors, classmates and peers – and I have learned so much from each of them. Lastly, the co-op program. Drexel’s co-op program gave me the opportunity to work off-campus and gain real-world experience while still maintaining my international student status.
CCI: Did you come to Drexel with any prior experience in the data science field?
TN: No, I did not have any prior experience. I started the program with a background in chemical engineering.
CCI: Why did you choose Drexel to pursue your graduate studies?
TN: I chose Drexel CCI because of the data science curriculum and the graduate co-op program.
CCI: What advice would you give to someone who’s considering going to Drexel for their master’s in data science?
TN: Read through the program’s curriculum to see if it is something you are looking for. Talk to professors, academic advisors and current students to get a better idea about the program. Attend CCI’s graduate program information sessions and ask any questions you may have there.
CCI: What is the most important takeaway from your time at Drexel?
TN: Don’t be afraid to ask questions because you never know where it might lead.
