Faculty Represent CCI at Leading Metadata and Semantics Conference

Several CCI faculty, along with alumni and PhD students, participated in the 19th Annual Conference on Metadata and Semantics Research in Thessaloniki, Greece, in December. The conference brings together academics, researchers and practitioners in the specialized fields of metadata, ontologies and semantics research.

David Breen, PhD, professor of computer science, was lead author of the paper Metadata and 3D Shape Similarity: Establishing a Ground Truth Dataset. CCI contributing authors included Bahareh Shakibajahromi, PhD in computer science ’19; Edward Kim, PhD, associate professor of computer science; Jane Greenberg, PhD, Alice B. Kroeger professor of information science and director of CCI’s Metadata Center.

Jane Greenberg, together with Yuan An, PhD, associate professor of information science, led the paper Human-in-the-Loop & AI: crowdsourcing a metadata vocabulary for materials science with contributions from CCI’s Metadata Research Center members Mat Kelly, PhD, assistant professor of information science, PhD students Scott McClellan and Chris Rauch, as well as Colorado School of Mines collaborators. 

The paper was recognized by AI World as one of “Week 50’s notable AI research papers.”
