Information Science Visiting Talk: Threat Modeling and Why is It Important?

We’ll discuss how to look at a system to identify potential areas of risk and the applicable threats. We’ll also review some threat modeling frameworks and how/when to use them. This will also include threats and risks specific to Generative AI technologies and security controls that are important to consider depending on the use case.
Mike Gallagher (1997 BS ECE) is Director for Security Engineering in Consumer Product Security at NBCUniversal where his team is responsible for securing the Global Streaming properties including Peacock, SkyShowtime, Showmax, and others. While at NBCU, he has helped to grow and mature the internal security engineering practices over the past seven years from a single group to three teams working in parallel. Prior to working at NBCU, Mike spent approximately twenty years at Lockheed Martin working on projects and proposals for the US Navy, Air Force, NASA, DHS, and several other agencies. Mike holds active CISSP and GPCS (multi-cloud security) certifications.
Frederic Rohrer is a Staff Cybersecurity Engineer at NBCUniversal, bringing over a decade of expertise in Cybersecurity Engineering with a specialization in AI security. Throughout his career, he has built distributed AI inference systems and machine learning algorithms for data leak protection and led the development of security-focused Generative AI solutions generating over $80M in revenue. He has also architected global cyber defense infrastructure across major cloud platforms. His collaborations include working with Google on SecPaLM development and creating security demonstrations for the World Economic Forum. Frederic holds a Master's degree in Cybersecurity from Temple University and maintains an active CISSP certification.
