PhD in Information Science

A doctorate is the highest degree awarded in the College of Computing & Informatics (CCI). While working on a PhD in Information Science, students collaborate closely with a faculty advisor to define a research topic, master research skills and literature, and become one of the world’s experts in their area of study. Our PhD program is built on a long tradition of excellence, and our graduates go on to careers in academia, industry, administration, and policy-setting.

The Information Science Department at Drexel is an ideal environment to pursue an interdisciplinary PhD that examines the intersection of information, technology, and people. Information Science faculty bring diverse training to their research; our faculty have PhDs in a range of disciplines including anthropology, psychology, library and information science, computer science, engineering, mathematics, and others. Drexel University is also home to interdisciplinary research centers and institutes where students find additional opportunities for mentorship and scholarly engagement. Drexel is located in central Philadelphia, a vibrant urban center that is home to many other universities and cultural institutions.

The PhD in Information Science provides students with disciplinary breadth through foundations in information science, data science and human-centered computing. Read more in our Program Overview and view published doctoral dissertations for Information Science on Drexel Libraries.
