U.S. Re-Entry Advisory for International Students
As winter break approaches, we want to remind all F-1 and J-1 students of a few important considerations for international travel and returning to campus.
Before departing the United States, please confirm that you have all required documents for re-entry:
- A valid passport (valid at least 6 months beyond your return date).
- A valid F-1 or J-1 visa.
- A recent travel signature on your I-20 (for F-1 students) or DS-2019 (for J-1 students). If you need an updated travel signature, please complete and submit the Signature Request form.
- Proof of enrollment, such as a printout of your current class schedule.
Students should return to the U.S. prior to the start of the winter term to ensure a smooth transition back to their studies. Please refer to the University Academic Calendar for official term dates and allow adequate time for potential travel delays.
With the new administration beginning on January 20, there may be changes in immigration and travel requirements. ISSS will closely monitor any updates and provide information on our website as it becomes available. We advise students on international break term or on OPT/STEM OPT to return to the U.S. prior to January 20 to avoid any potential travel difficulties.
Should you encounter issues at the U.S. port of entry when returning to the U.S., please review the immigration emergency information on our Information and Resources page.
