Drexel University recently announced its first cohort of Distinguished Professors. This designation is the highest title the University can bestow on a member of the full-time faculty, and recognizes sustained excellence, national and international distinction, and extraordinary commitment to the University's values. The selection committee named three Distinguished Professors, two of whom are faculty members at the College of Medicine.

For 33 years, the Pediatric AIDS Benefit Concert (PABC) has been a defining tradition at Drexel University College of Medicine. On January 24, 2026, students, faculty, professional staff, guests and alumni gathered at Drexel University’s Main Building auditorium for an evening of performances, with all proceeds going to the Dorothy Mann Center for Pediatric and Adolescent HIV at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. To date, PABC has raised more than $780,000 for children and families affected by HIV/AIDS.

When the College of Medicine opened its West Reading Campus in 2021, one of its first community partnerships started only a few blocks away at the Reading Science Center, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing engaging and accessible STEM learning to local youth. The Reading Science Center became one of the campus's first Health Advocacy Practicum (HAP) sites, hosting a first-year medical student from the inaugural class.

Drexel University has signed a landmark lease selecting Gattuso Development Partners’ and Vigilant Holdings’ best-in-class life science development, 3201 Cuthbert Street, as the future home for its medical research and laboratory operations. The long-term lease agreement, which encompasses four floors totaling 150,741 square feet, marks a transformative step that will bring the entirety of research operations for the Drexel University College of Medicine to University City.

There is no cure for the rare disease hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP), but researchers from Drexel University’s College of Medicine and the UMass Chan Medical School have achieved proof-of-principle success with “silence and replace” gene therapy — an approach that uses a viral vector to silence genes with disease-causing mutations and replace them with healthy genes — to prevent and even reverse disease progression.

Each year, the University Libraries and the Office of the Provost proudly host the Celebrating Drexel Authors event — a celebration that honors faculty, staff and students who have published creative or scholarly works. At this year's event held on November 6, the University honored a total of 79 individuals who published books or contributed to highly cited journal articles in the calendar year 2024. Of the honorees, 15 are from the College of Medicine.
