Physician Refresher/Re-Entry Program Observership

OBSERVERSHIP: In Person

The Drexel Physician Refresher/Re-Entry Observership allows physicians to observe in an urban outpatient medicine clinical setting and learn from an experienced clinician-educator. Currently, we have observerships in outpatient specialties of rheumatology and hematology/oncology. We also offer a nephrology observership in a combined setting of inpatient, outpatient and hemodialysis unit with didactics in cardiovascular systems. Please rank and tell us which you prefer.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain insight into outpatient medical practice in an urban U.S. setting
  • Compare and contrast history-taking methods in various clinical scenarios
  • List steps of a focused and complete exam
  • Practice communication skills with all team members in a practice, including physician faculty, administrator(s) and other medical staff
  • Review diagnostic and management plans in various clinical scenarios
  • Discuss how and why to attend to a patient’s quality of life
  • Discuss drug manufacturing, its regulation and its effects on public health

DREXEL OBSERVERSHIP TARGET AUDIENCE

  • Physicians (including international medical graduates) who wish to become acculturated into the U.S. medical system to prepare for a U.S. graduate medical education training program
  • Physicians who wish to regain licensure and return to active clinical medicine after a leave from medicine
  • Physicians who wish to enhance their clinical skills in a specialty practice

Planning to take this course? Please note the following:

  • You must have completed medical school
  • You will need two weeks prior to the start of the program to complete assigned learning
  • You are responsible for your own transportation, housing, meals and personal needs
  • The location will be an outpatient practice in downtown Philadelphia
  • You may be learning alongside another learner
  • The course starts on the first Monday of every month and is first-come, first-served
  • The program is run in four-week blocks
  • Faculty members are affiliated with Drexel University College of Medicine

Outcome

  • We provide only one letter of completion from the program.
  • There will be an orientation to clarify goals and expectations and exit interview. We appreciate your feedback during and upon completion of the program.
