Physician Refresher/Re-entry Program
The remote Drexel Physician Refresher/Reentry Structured Observership/Preceptorship program provides an update for clinically inactive physicians who want a refresher before gaining relicensure and/or returning to practice. The course will also provide teaching and exposure to the U.S. health care system via medical observership for those ready to embark on a residency program.
The Physician Refresher/Re-entry program's faculty and staff are dedicated to helping physicians learn and achieve their career goals of relicensure, return to clinical practice, or U.S. medical residency placement. The remote Drexel Physician Refresher/Re-entry program team is comprised of Drexel University's preceptors/mentors and staff.
About Our Program
The remote Drexel Physician Refresher/Re-entry program was developed to reinforce our priority to keep clinicians/learners safe during COVID-19. Consequently, the structured observership/preceptorship has transitioned to a completely remote platform.
Participants have embraced the new platform. The group meets regularly for questions, learning, discussions, presentations and assessments. The independent self-directed learning has many components to bring one's knowledge up to date.
A Virtual Experience
Learners can participate from anywhere in the world with an internet connection and video compatibility. Online interfaces include Zoom and Drexel resources such as Blackboard and SimIQ technology. Course participants meet together in real time; we make effort to accommodate everyone's time zones.
How the Program Works
The preceptorship/observership is offered over a four-week period, using conferencing technology. A formal application is required. Courses start the first Monday of each month. The course can be combined with other Drexel programs for physicians including medical update curriculum and the clinical assessment (at an additional fee).
Program Objectives
This intense course provides an update in medical knowledge, clinical reasoning, teaching and presentation skills, and communication. At the same time, it rebuilds one's confidence prior to obtaining relicensure and returning to practice in a clinical setting. Equally important, we bring students together and encourage building a network for future learning and collaboration.
