The Drexel/Tower Health Family Medicine Residency program is a great place to continue your education and receive broad-based training that will help you reach your potential as an excellent family physician.
Our program takes the best opportunities for education from the wealth of resources we have in our area, and couples them with outstanding, energetic faculty who are dedicated to teaching our residents and fostering their growth. Our residents and faculty truly work as a team; in fact, we share the same patient panel in our outpatient offices, located in vibrant Manayunk. At this office, we see a wide variety of patients, which enables our residents to learn about diseases and how factors — such as socioeconomic status, insurance type and ethnicity — affect patients differently. Residents are viewed as partners. We care for patients like a large group practice. Our outpatient office has received NCQA recognition as a Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home.
Our faculty members have a wide range of professional interests and expertise, including medical informatics, medical humanities, care of the underserved, geriatrics, women's health and sports medicine. While our goal is to help you to be the best family physician, we also care about the individual. Our faculty are invested in our residents as people; we have many social events together as a group.
Hospitals included for training during the Family Medicine Residency program are Chestnut Hill Hospital, Roxborough Memorial Hospital and St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. Chestnut Hill, our core hospital, is a tertiary care facility with multiple training programs. Our family medicine inpatient service and many subspecialty rotations are conducted at Chestnut Hill, which gives our residents the chance to work alongside residents from other specialties while learning up-to-date, evidence-based medicine from specialists who care about teaching and resident education. St. Christopher's is an internationally renowned pediatric hospital where our residents rotate on the inpatient service, in the emergency room and in outpatient offices. This provides an excellent educational opportunities for our residents to learn from the best in the field. In addition, because of our collaborative relationship with Tower Health, our residents are exposed to clinical opportunities at Reading Hospital, one of the largest tertiary-care centers in the state.
The residency program also serves as a main site for the medical school student clerkships of Drexel University College of Medicine. The entire department is very involved in teaching at the medical school. In addition to the residency outpatient office in Manayunk, our department has a clinical office site at the Student Health Center on the undergraduate main campus of Drexel University. Our group serves as school physicians and team physicians for several area high schools and two NCAA Division I universities.
