Known as “breakbone fever” due to the joint pain and sometimes week-long high fevers that can accompany the disease, dengue fever is on the rise. There have been more than a million cases in Brazil so far this year. Mosquitos carrying the dengue virus are also causing major outbreaks in Paraguay, Argentina and Peru, and infecting millions — particularly in the Caribbean and in Latin America, where the 2024 case count is roughly triple the number reported in 2023. The Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® (ELAM®) program at Drexel University College of Medicine is pleased to announce the graduation of its 29th class. The graduating class included 95 ELAM fellows and 45 fellows from the Executive Leadership in Health Care (ELH) track, from a total of 92 institutions. They join a diverse alumnae community of more than 1,400 highly accomplished leaders that represent 300 medical, dental, public health and pharmacy schools from around the world.

Drexel University College of Medicine has recently secured more opportunities for the clinical education of our medical students. Our longstanding academic medical campus affiliation with Bayhealth Medical Center in Delaware has been expanded. It will serve as a new regional medical campus for the College of Medicine beginning at the start of this 2024-2025 academic year.
