Accounts Closure and Forwarding

END OF LONG-TERM ALUMNI FORWARDING – FAQ

Q: Why is the old @drexel.edu long-term forwarding email service ending?

A: The University's email systems are undergoing significant change. Part of that change is a simplification of alumni email services. The long-term email forwarding service provided by IT is being phased out in favor of the similar service already offered by the Alumni Association.

Q: Doesn't the University offer permanent email forwarding to its graduates?

A: There is a permanent email forwarding service offered through the Alumni Online Community, using email addresses of the form yourname@alum.drexel.edu. To learn more and to register your profile and alumni email address, visit http://drexel.edu/alumni/connected/directory.

Q: I have more questions...

A: Contact us at accounts@drexel.edu. Put "ALUMNI FORWARDING" in the subject.

Accounts Closure and Forwarding FAQ from Fall 2015

Q: I received an email from the "IT Accounts Office" that says I can respond at a drexel.qualtrics.com address. Is this site legitimate?

A: You are wise to check! Yes, drexel.qualtrics.com is a legitimate Drexel site. Drexel licenses the Qualtrics survey software, and drexel.qualtrics.com is where our surveys are hosted. We have a questionnaire set up there to take followup responses to our mailings to alumni who graduated over two years ago regarding planned closing of their @drexel.edu accounts.  And, you can be fairly sure this FAQ is legitimate because it resides on the main drexel.edu website. If you need even further reassurance, you can call the IT Help Desk at 215-895-2020.

(A selection of recent fraudulent email can be seen at drexel.edu/isthisreal. For more information about phishing/scams, see drexel.edu/drexel.edu/it/help/viruses/spamblocking/protect.)

Q: But I thought the University offers permanent email forwarding to its graduates!

A: There is a permanent email forwarding service offered by the Alumni Association through the Alumni Online Community, using email addresses of the form yourname@alum.drexel.edu. To learn more and to register your profile and alumni email address, visit http://drexel.edu/alumni/connected/directory.

Q: How can I keep the emails that are already stored in my Drexel email box?

A: You should copy whatever you want to keep before the account closes on December 21st. See http://drexel.edu/it/accounts/closure#keep for some general tips.

Q: I primarily use the glink.drexel.edu email address - will this also be closing or will this still be an active, usable email account?

A: There are no plans at this time to close any of the existing LinkEdu accounts (gLink, eLink, hLink). Only @drexel.edu email addresses are affected by the planned changes in December 2015 and September 2016.

Q: Is there a deadline for responding?

A: The drexel.qualtrics.com link we sent you expires on Friday, December 18th, 2015 at noon.

Q: When I go to the drexel.qualtrics.com link it says, "Your survey session has expired and you cannot continue taking the survey."

A: This means that the response site has closed for your group. (For most people, the site closed Friday 12/18 at noon. (There is one group for which it will close Monday 12/21 at 3pm.) We've gathered up the final responses and are putting together the processing list for Monday morning (or Monday afternoon, for that one group). Once the response site is closed, you can send your information to accounts@drexel.edu (please be sure to include your userid, your contact information, and the reason for your inquiry). We'll do our best to handle last-minute inquiries before processing begins, but you may not receive a response until after Monday.
