Chemistry Seminar: Small Molecules, Macromolecules and Molecular Machines: Where Chemistry Meets Bio

Thursday, December 1, 2016

4:30 PM-5:30 PM

Gino Cingolani, PhD, director, X-ray Crystallography Facility at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center of Thomas Jefferson University

“Small Molecules, Macromolecules and Molecular Machines: where Chemistry Meets Biology”

This seminar presents an overview of the research in structural biochemistry carried out in the Cingolani lab. Particular emphasis is devoted to: (i.) studying how macromolecules assemble into multi-subunit complexes that function as enzymatically-active molecular machines; (ii) biophysical methods to explore the structure, folding and reactivity of biological macromolecules; (iii) regulation of macromolecules by small molecule and drug-like compounds, providing new avenues for chemical biology.
