Abstract:
fNIRS (functional near infrared spectroscopy) is a technology that implements NIRS technology to the reaction of a function of the body. In our lab led by Dr. Kambiz Pourrezaei, the subject's reaction to pain and the function of the body in response to pain is studied. The technology to create an NIRS system involves the integration of light emitting diodes and photodetectors to emit and detect at hemodynamic frequencies.

The objective of this thesis is to display a revised and fundamental development of the NIRS system, and the versatility of a signal that can be acquired through a single LED and photodetector.
