Drexel Applied Innovation manages the intellectual property that is created at the University and serves as a bridge between Drexel’s faculty, staff and students with the private sector.
The staff work with Drexel researchers to identify new technologies that may have commercial potential, then works with intellectual property counsel to secure patent or copyright protection and negotiates license agreements with industry, investors and entrepreneurs to bring those technologies to market.
Drexel University has consistently appeared on the National Academy of Inventors and Intellectual Property Owners Association’s list of the world’s top 100 universities for patents granted. With 44 issued patents from 2018 where Drexel was listed as the first assignee, the University is tied for 51st place.
