Yury Gogotsi

Yury Gogotsi, PhD, Distinguished University and Charles T. and Ruth M. Bach Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, has been named a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS).

WAAS was established in 1960 by eminent intellectuals from around the world to address global social challenges. It is a highly selective society whose 560 fellows include Nobel laureates, heads of state, and renowned cultural and business figures from 90 different countries.

“The current members include many former ministers from various countries, top United Nations and UNESCO officials, and polymath scientists with a broad vision, who certainly play an important role,” said Gogotsi. “Two of its 12 programs, Technology as a Force for Good and Science and Sustainability, are particularly close to my heart. I look forward to becoming more involved with this organization.”
