Jennifer Atchison (PhD ‘12, advisor: Caroline Schauer) and Michael Naguib (PhD ‘14, advisors: Yury Gogotsi and Michel Barsoum) were honored by the Drexel Alumni Board of Governors at their 2023 annual awards ceremony.

Atchison, who is an Assistant Teaching Professor and Senior Design Coordinator in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics (MEM), received Drexel’s Faculty/Staff Alumni Award for her "impressive level of service to the department, college and university.”

During her time as a Drexel faculty member, Atchison has fostered community around academic success and creativity among students. In 2021, she won a grant to conduct research on how various forms of classroom feedback can be helpful to student creativity. Additionally, she is a principal investigator on a multi-university project aimed at partnering with industry advisory boards to help create pathways for students’ academic and career success. Presently, she’s serving as Chair of the Student Affairs Committee in MEM, member of the Academic Support Committee in MEM, and on the Faculty Senate as Alternate Senator.

Naguib was part of the team who discovered and developed MXenes and his papers on the subject have listed him as a highly cited researcher several times. He has appeared in Drexel’s “40 under 40” and has won numerous awards for his achievements.

The two received their awards on May 21, 2023 at a ceremony held during Drexel’s Alumni Weekend.
