Drexel Materials Ranked Globally by ‘U.S. News’

In the 2022 US News and World Report Global Universities rankings, Drexel is ranked #39 in the world in the category of Materials Science. The ranking places Drexel’s materials science programs at #13 out of all US universities. Drexel also ranked highly in Nanoscience (#40 worldwide, #9 in US) and Physical Chemistry (#35 worldwide, #8 in US), both core competencies of materials scientists.

A significant influence in these rankings is the impact of published research on peers. Drexel researchers were cited more than any other collection of experts in the world in the fields of Materials Science, Nano and Physical Chemistry, with more publications among the top 1% than any other institution. Drexel also ranks #1 or #2 in the same categories when expanded to the top 10% of citations.

“This is a testament to the hard work, creativity, and intellectual talents of Drexel’s materials research community, from the students to the postdocs to the faculty,” says Steven May, PhD, professor and department head in Materials Science and Engineering. “This spirit of discovery and excellence is advancing Drexel’s reputation around the world, creating new translational opportunities, and providing a generation of students and postdocs with an exceptional training from which to launch their own research groups her
