Dr. Kevin Scoles, Associate Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, has joined the leadership team of Drexel's College of Engineering as Associate Dean for Undergraduate Affairs. Dr. Scoles succeeds Jim Mitchell, who served in this role from 2015 to 2019.
Dr. Scoles has been a member of the Drexel community since 1982, having come directly from earning his B.S. and PhD, both in Physics, from Union and Dartmouth Colleges, respectively. He teaches courses related to electronic devices and circuits, and more recently expanded into renewable energy. Dr. Scoles has a strong record of involvement with curriculum design, course assessment, program accreditation, student advising, face-to-face and online teaching innovation, and student organization advising - all skills and experience he brings to the ADUA role.
Upon accepting the position, Dr. Scoles recalled his younger self as a "tinkerer" and shared a story of hands-on experience in an electronics instrumentation lab and the influence it had on him and his lab partner. "When the lab course was over, I remember thinking I'd like to do some more of this in the future," said Dr. Scoles. "Well, now, over 40 years later, I'm still doing it. I've used this lab design structure many, many times since arriving at Drexel. The College of ENgineering is rich with talent in the student body, faculty, staff, and administration, and as Associate Dean, I would like to promote that feeling of discovery and satisfaction when a team puts together a design and meets a goal, even if there are a few stumbles along the way."
