Drexel Materials Senior Design Team Places Second

The Senior Design team from Drexel Materials placed second at the 2018 College of Engineering Celebration of Engineering Design Senior Design competition.

The team included seniors Thomas Heng and Devon Spinelli, who were advised by Distinguished University and Charles T. and Ruth M. Bach Professor Yury Gogotsi, and mentored by alumna Dr. Katie Van Aken and PhD student Asia Sarycheva.  

Their project, “New Application of 2D Titanium Carbide in Electroacoustic Transducer” entailed research into creating the first MXene loudspeaker, for which they filed a patent disclosure with Drexel’s Office of Technology Commercialization.  The team received a prize of $2,500.00.  

The event, hosted on Thursday, June 7, 2018 in the Bossone Research Enterprise Center, included student presenters from both the College of Engineering and the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems.
