Peace Engineering Provides Technical Support at Refugee Camps

Mira Olson, co-director of Drexel's Peace Engineering program, visited refugee camps in Lesbos, Greece with a team of engineers from the University of Colorado-Boulder in December. The team worked to provide technical guidance to the organizations responsible for providing water, sanitation and shelter for the thousands of people living within the camps.

In addition to advising NGOs on winterization strategies for the refugee camps, the team designed a drainage system that will be built in the coming weeks to reduce flooding in the camp during heavy rains. Peace Engineering students at Drexel continue to engage with the refugee camps, providing technical support for ongoing water and sanitation projects.
