Distinguished University and Trustee Chair Professor Yury Gogotsi received a Docteur Honoris Causa from Université Paul Sabatier. A major recognition, the honor requires approval from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Gogotsi was nominated by his close collaborator, Professor Patrice Simon, Professor of Materials Science at Université Paul Sabatier. Gogotsi is one of four people to receive the honor and the only materials scientist. The ceremony took place on October 8, 2014.
Founded in 1229 as part of the University of Toulouse, the institution was later renamed for Paul Sabatier, winner of the 1912 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
