Assessment

The Construction Management program uses several direct and indirect assessment measures to evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum.

These include the following:

  • End-of-term course assessments
  • Senior exit surveys
  • Senior exit interviews
  • Senior Student Learning Outcome survey
  • Alumni surveys
  • Employer surveys

The results of these assessment measures have been used to help faculty shape a new curriculum, improve current courses and implement new technology in the classroom.  Additionally, the employer and alumni surveys assist the faculty in developing course material that is current, relevant and in demand within the industry. An example of this is the incorporation of required technology courses and Building Information Modeling courses within the curriculum, as well as Introduction to Sustainability in Construction.  Student informal feedback is also helpful to improve the curriculum. Students were struggling in advanced structural analysis courses, which resulted in the creation of a statics course that all students must take as a pre-requisite to those courses.  The results over the past two years have been positive, with the performance of students in the structural sequence improving significantly.

Student Achievement

Teams from the 2019 competition

The students within the construction management program excel in many ways, however, each year at the Associated Schools of Construction Region 1 student competition, they really shine.  Competing against schools from throughout the Northeast to include NYU, Roger Williams, Wentworth Institute and Rochester Institute of Technology.

The results of the past 6 years of competition clearly support that claim.

Employment of Graduates

The construction management degree program has a 100% job placement rate within 3 months of graduation.

Our graduates are working in every sector of the construction industry to include commercial, heavy-civil, residential and industrial construction.  A recent survey of graduates five years out of the program indicated that the commercial sector employs the majority of our students.

Our students are also earning competitive salaries. In surveying alumni five years after graduation 50% of them are earning between $80-$100K with 18% earning over $100K.

Survey Data

The program prides itself on its teaching quality. Senior exit surveys are important information in assessing CMGT teaching quality. There are five questions from the senior exit surveys the program uses to assess the quality of the instruction and the faculty performance.  The program assessment metric requires a score of 80% or greater of students responding “Satisfied” or “Very Satisfied.” These questions include:

  • Faculty Responsiveness/engagement
  • Quality of course content
  • Faculty Accessibility
  • Quality of Instruction
  • Quality of Interactions with Faculty

The table below is a summary of data compiled from senior exit surveys. Please note the program was not provided any data for the 2018-2019 graduation year.
