John Via

Biography

Dr. John Via is currently a Teaching Professor in the Department of Engineering Management, where he teaches courses in Engineering Management, Project Management, Systems Engineering, and Pharmaceutical & Medical Device Manufacturing. Via is also a Professor (by Courtesy) in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, serves on the Board of Trustees for the Engineering School at the University of Virginia, and on the Advisory Board for the Medical Product Development Program at the University of California - Irvine. He served as Associate Dean of Engineering from 2012-2017; Department Head of Engineering Management 2013-2017, Director of the Engineering Management Program 2012-2017, and is the Founding Director of the Vince & Judy Vidas Program in Systems Engineering. Via started teaching as an Adjunct Associate Professor in Engineering at Texas Christian University and assisted with the start-up of their undergraduate engineering program. He was appointed Adjunct Professor in Engineering Management at Southern Methodist University in 2004 and taught in their Executive MS Engineering Management Program for eight years. Dr. Via has over 30 years of industrial experience in the pharmaceutical, medical device and chemical industries, and continues to serve as a consultant. He is a Certified Professional Engineering Manager, and a registered Professional Engineer in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Dr. Via completed the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School.
