Bio
Dr. Carroll-Scott is Professor and Chair of the Department of Community Health and Prevention at the Drexel Dornsife School of Public Health. Drawing on social epidemiology, mixed methods, and intervention research, her work seeks to advance health equity by strengthening community power and transforming the systems that shape health. She partners with community organizations, residents, and public-sector agencies to co-design and evaluate interventions that address structural inequities in urban communities.
Current projects include serving as Multiple Principal Investigator of the NIH-funded National Community-Led Research Coordinating Center; Principal Investigator of an organizational development grant for the Promise Zone Research Connection, a resident-led nonprofit that facilitates community oversight of research conducted in West Philadelphia neighborhoods; Principal Investigator of a Pennsylvania Department of Health-funded project to build community participatory research and violence prevention evaluation capacity; and Co-Investigator and Evaluation Lead of the HRSA-funded Healing-Centered Learning Academy, which trains paraprofessionals and community health workers. She also serves as Multiple Principal Investigator of Drexel's subaward to the NSF-supported International Network of Networks for Well-Being in the Built Environment, an interdisciplinary collaboration advancing research on healthy communities worldwide. Her work has informed community-engaged research practice, violence prevention initiatives, and efforts to strengthen community participation and power in research, public health, systems change, and institutional decision-making.
Dr. Carroll-Scott is co-founder and co-leader of the Philadelphia Maternal and Child Health Collaborative and serves as Co-Investigator and Doctoral Student Director of the HRSA-funded Center of Excellence in Maternal, Child, Adolescent, and Family Health. She also founded and leads the Drexel Community-Engaged Research Working Group.
