Self-driving cars, facial recognition technology, and autonomous robots once seemed like futuristic inventions, but thanks to innovations in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, these technologies are now a reality. LinkedIn recently rated Artificial Intelligence Specialist as the number one emerging job role for 2020 [PDF], with hiring growth increasing by 74% annually in the past four years.
This fall, Drexel University’s College of Computing & Informatics (CCI) will launch a new Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning program, as well as a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
These new master’s and certificates programs will be offered both online and on-campus to students who hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in computer science, software engineering or related STEM degree plus work experience equal to CCI’s Graduate Certificate in Computer Science.
“The impact of AI and machine learning on industry is wide-reaching as it is in growing demand,” said CCI Dean and Isaac L. Auerbach Professor Yi Deng, PhD. “We are excited to expand our leading-edge, flexible and stackable academic offerings in computing prepare today’s professionals to meet modern business and societal needs for more intelligent technology solutions.”
Students in the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning master’s and certificate programs will benefit from hands-on, experiential instruction led by CCI Department of Computer Science faculty who are actively researching and partnering with industry in the AI field.
The MS in AI and Machine Learning program is specifically designed for professionals who are interested in building on their existing quantitative skills to become leaders in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning.
The new master’s program will include a new, multi-term capstone series that enables students to apply their knowledge to real-world AI and machine learning industry challenges. Working in teams, capstone students will develop a significant product with advisors from industry and/or academia, allowing students to explore artificial intelligence-related issues and challenges involved in the application domain of the team’s choice.
For recent graduates and professionals who are interested in building on their existing quantitative skills, the Graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning provides core knowledge in algorithms, mathematics and applications. Credits earned in the four-course certificate program can be applied toward the MS in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
