Announcing the Winner of the Holidays at Home Photo Competition

Inspired by the 2020 Isaac L. Auerbach Innovation Competition winning project "Quarterly CCI Cultural Celebrations," the College of Computing & Informatics launched its first quarterly photo competition with the theme Holidays @ Home.

Students were encouraged to submit photos showing how they made the best of things during winter break in an unusual year, and showcasing how they safely celebrated winter holidays or kept things cozy at home. CCI students, faculty, and professional staff members voted to select the winning photo, and we are pleased to announce the winner is Nikhil Parakh (BS Software Engineering).

His photo will be posted to CCI's website, social media, and displayed in 3675 Market. He will also receive a package of CCI swag. View his winning photo submission "Little Joys" below.

A person sitting on the street tossing birdfeed to a crowd of pigeons in Boudhanath Stupa.

"Pigeons are summoned in large numbers by the sight of corns and seeds (चारा, chara) from the street vendors and visitors in early morning. This is a routine experience for people living near Boudhanath Stupa. Because of how stressful this pandemic period has been, seeing these birds savor every grain is a moment of catharsis. Often times, due to the busyness of life, we fail to cherish these small moments. But, during the holidays when we have ample time in hand, sitting back and appreciating the simple things and the little joys in life feels fulfilling."

You can view all of the photo submissions in CCI's Facebook album at this link.
