Houda El mimouni and Jiangen He Awarded 2020 Eugene Garfield Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships

PhD in Information Science candidates Houda El mimouni and Jiangen He are recipients of the 2020 Beta Phi Mu International Library and Information Studies Honor Society’s (BPM) Eugene Garfield Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship. The Fellowship provides a $3,000 award to doctoral students who are working on their dissertations in Library and Information Science, Information Studies, Informatics, or a related field. 

Their fellowship awards will support El mimouni’s dissertation research, titled “Robotic Telepresence in the Classroom and Values,” and Jiangen He's dissertation research, titled “Predictive and Visual Analytics of Scientific Development."

El mimouni and He were among six Eugene Garfield Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship recipients recognized at BPM’s virtual annual membership meeting on June 27.

El mimouni, whose research interests center on human-computer interaction and computer-mediated communication, is also the recent recipient of the 2020 Computing Innovation Fellowship which will support her dissertation research. Previous to Drexel, El mimouni earned a master’s in library and information science at the Pratt Institute (under a Fulbright grant), a dual bachelor’s in language & pedagogy and linguistics from the Mohammed V. University, a bachelor’s in information science from the School of Information Science in Rabat, Morocco, and an associate of science degree with specializations in computer science and software development from La Référence School in Sale, Morocco.

Jiangen He, whose research interests include visual analytics, text mining and knowledge discovery, was the recipient of the 2019 Eugene Garfield Doctoral Dissertation Scholarship. The scholarship is sponsored by the Eugene Garfield Foundation with the cooperation of the Chemical Heritage Foundation, and administered by the Board of the International Society for Scientometrics and Informetrics (ISSI). Previous to pursuing his doctorate at Drexel, He earned a master’s in information science from Wuhan University and a bachelor’s in business administration and management and computer science from Nanjing University of Technology.
