What is the mission or purpose of your group?

  • To promote engagement and awareness in the fields of global and public health through informative and educational events.
  • To cultivate a professional network with whom to share ideas and knowledge.
  • To provide pathways for students to make scholarly contributions aimed at improving the health and well-being of populations, communities and individuals.

What types of activities, events or initiatives does your group organize?

We host speaker events with faculty from Penn, Drexel and Jefferson, fundraisers, panels with current upper-class students, and seminars on global health summer fellowship opportunities.

What are some of the group's recent events?

  • Global health research opportunities event (May 2024)
  • M1 summer experiences in global health panel event (September 2024)
  • Physician spotlight event with Dr. Joseph Sobanko/Penn (November 2024)
  • Physician spotlight event with Dr. Elizabeth Drum/CHOP (December 2024)
  • Chipotle fundraiser day (January 2025)
  • Physician spotlight event (collaboration with Ophthalmology Interest Group) with Dr. Geoff Tabin/Stanford (TBD)

How do your activities contribute to professional or personal growth for its members?

We are committed to supporting Drexel students who have global health interests. We are passionate about exposing students to opportunities and pairing students with mentors who can help promote opportunities and foster unique interests.

What are some ways that members have used the skills or experience gained through this group to enhance their education?

Students can use networks provided by the club to gain experience in global health. Students also apply for funding through scholarship opportunities that we advertise. Finally, we hope that students can plan their careers around global health experience.

Is there anything else you would like to share about your student group?

We welcome students with a diversity of experiences and perspectives. We hope that each member can contribute to the club and teach their fellow students about topics of interest in the global public health sector.
