Pulse - Summer 2023 College of Medicine Leaders Share Insights at Equity in Medical Education Summit

The Independence Blue Cross Foundation and Delaware Valley DEI Consortium hosted an Equity in Medical Education Summit from April 11-13, 2023. The theme was “We’re Making Change Happen.” Numerous College of Medicine faculty members spoke during the event:

  • Annette B. Gadegbeku, MD, associate dean of community health and faculty director of Healing Hurt People, and Janet Cruz, MD, assistant professor of family, community and preventive medicine, presented as part of the “Readiness” session.
  • Seema Baranwal, MD, senior associate dean for student affairs, and Dana C. Farabaugh, MD, senior associate dean of undergraduate medical education, were among the faculty for the “Student Affairs Retention” session.
  • Rita P. Guevara, MD, assistant dean of diversity, equity and inclusion, and Vanessa Pirrone, PhD, associate dean of admissions, served as faculty for the “Recruitment” session.
  • Donna M. Russo, PhD, interim vice dean for educational affairs, senior associate dean for curriculum, and William Maul Measey Chair in Medical Education, was a faculty member in the “A Call to Action” roundtable discussion.
  • Roshell Muir, PhD, director of the Office of Urban Health Equity, Education and Research, was a presenter for the “Student Engagement Faculty Leads” session.
  • Leon McCrea II, MD, MPH, program director of the Drexel Pathway to Medical School and senior associate dean of diversity, equity and inclusion, gave closing remarks.
