Pulse - Summer 2019 Floral Anatomy

Kristen Kelly, MD '19, painted "Floral Anatomy" (acrylic on canvas, 24 x 30") for her final project in the Medical Humanities Scholar program. "The styling inspiration is taken from works by Georgia O'Keeffe, who often painted flowers that were theorized by the media to represent female anatomy," Kelly says. "Her legacy helped transcend barriers for females by furthering the feminist movement, and her works now exemplify female empowerment." The painting was accepted for publication in Intima: A Journal of Narrative Medicine. Kelly matched to the University of Connecticut Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency program.
