Haviva Goldman, PhD, Appointed Assistant Dean, Phase 1 Curriculum

Haviva Goldman, PhD, has been appointed as assistant dean, Phase 1 curriculum at Drexel University College of Medicine. Dr. Goldman will oversee the organization, management and implementation of the Phase 1 curriculum for the MD program. She will work closely with the senior associate dean of Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) to ensure that the curriculum is delivered effectively and meets the needs of our students.

Dr. Goldman will provide essential direction to the curriculum staff, working in collaboration with the curriculum director. She will take an active leadership role in the development and refinement of the Phase 1 curriculum, working collaboratively with course and thread directors to ensure cohesive and integrated online and in-person delivery of content and exams. Additionally, Dr. Goldman will develop remediation schedules and play a key role in Phase 1 curriculum meetings, working with UME leadership to set the agenda and chair meetings.

Dr. Goldman has a strong academic background and a deep commitment to educational excellence. She earned her PhD in Anthropology from the City University of New York (CUNY) in 2001. She also holds a Master of Arts in Anthropology from CUNY's Hunter College, and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology (cum laude) from Barnard College of Columbia University.

She has been a key figure in the medical education community at Drexel since 2002, serving as vice chair for medical education in the Department of Neurobiology & Anatomy since 2018. Her dedication has been recognized through numerous awards including The Angelo Pinto Educator Award in 2011, Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching in 2013, departmental Faculty Service Award in 2020 and many Golden Apple awards and nominations.

Within the Foundations and Frontiers curriculum, Dr. Goldman was previously a co-course director of Molecules to Organs and Human Structure and Function 1 and remains a core faculty member in the anatomical sciences for all Year 1 basic science courses. Dr. Goldman has also served as a facilitator in the Case-Based Learning course for first-year medical students.

Her experience and dedication to educational excellence make her well-suited to lead this critical phase of our medical education. Her leadership will positively impact both the Phase 1 curriculum and the student experience.
