Sandra Urdaneta-Hartmann, MD, PhD, and Krys Adkins, both of the Department of Microbiology & Immunology, were honored during National Distance Learning Week (NDLW) for their accomplishments and dedication to online learning. Drexel University Online hosted its eighth annual awards ceremony celebrating exceptional leaders, faculty and staff at a November 11, 2014 event held at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University.

Urdaneta-Hartmann was recognized for her achievements as director of the Center for Business and Online Development within the Institute for Molecular Medicine and Infectious Disease (IMMID). She was part of a collaborative effort in the development and delivery of the online Master of Science in Molecular Medicine program, and had a major hand in developing nine online graduate-level courses. Urdaneta-Hartmann has also participated in the development of a series of hybrid and online Integrated MS Programs in Biomedicine to be offered by the Department and IMMID in collaboration with other Drexel schools and colleges. In fact, she is director of this new series that is planned for a 2015 debut.

Adkins was recognized for her invaluable expertise in helping to successfully develop the online, graduate-level curriculum to be offered by the IMMID. She trains faculty members who may have little or no experience in online or hybrid teaching. Adkins' extensive experience in face-to-face, online and hybrid teaching and her mastery of these skills is evident in the quality of the online courses faculty in the program have developed under her guidance and training.

These courses are available, or will soon be available, through the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences & Professional Studies.

Created in 2007, NDLW celebrates the tremendous growth and accomplishments occurring in distance learning education, while showing appreciation to those who make an indelible mark in the field and with students.
