Summer 2014 is upon us, and that means it’s time for the thirteenth annual Manuel Stamatakis Golf Classic. The July 14 event, at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, raises scholarship funds for Drexel University College of Medicine students with proven academic ability and financial need.

“One of the College’s guiding principles is our tradition of providing educational opportunity to those who might not otherwise have it, and this event helps us do just that for several future physicians,” said Stamatakis. “Now, more than ever, the world needs qualified and dedicated doctors who can meet the contemporary health needs of patients. Personally, it is very rewarding to be involved in furthering the education of tomorrow’s health care practitioners.”

This year's fundraiser will also see the return of the Manuel Stamatakis Matching Gift Challenge for Scholarships in Medicine. Qualifying donations are set to be matched dollar-for-dollar, which will double the scholarship amounts available to each medical student.

Co-chairs for this year's golf classic are Daniel V. Schidlow, MD, Annenberg Dean and senior vice president of medical affairs at Drexel University College of Medicine; Michael P. Halter, CEO of Hahnemann University Hospital; and William R. Sasso, Esq., chairman of Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young, LLP.
