Bobby Kelly, a fourth-year medical student at Drexel University College of Medicine was recently awarded the 2012 LGBT Health Achievement Award, presented annually by the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) and the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association (GLMA). The organizations chose Kelly for his efforts to provide opportunities for students, residents, faculty and staff to learn more about LGBT health.

"Knowing the caliber of previous recipients of the award, and the great work that both GLMA and AMSA do, I am deeply humbled to receive this honor," said Kelly. "The Centers for Disease Control, Institute of Medicine and the Department of Health and Human Services have all agreed that there is a need for culturally competent medical care and prevention services for the LGBT community. I plan to continue my efforts through residency, and I am hopeful that there are many current and future student-leaders who will also continue to promote LGBT health issues to help address inequities that exist."

Kelly will graduate from Drexel University College of Medicine in May. He recently learned that he will begin his residency training in a combined Family Medicine and Preventive Medicine program at Concord Hospital/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire.
