January 4: Zachary Klase, PhD, an associate professor in the Department of Pharmacology & Physiology, was quoted in a Philadelphia Inquirer article about unanswered questions about the omicron variant.

January 5: Sarah Long, MD, a professor in the Department of Pediatrics, was quoted in an Associated Press article about a vote from advisors from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in favor of a booster for younger teens once enough time — five months — has passed since their last shot. The article ran in the Denver Gazette, News 12 Long Island, WHDH-TV (Boston, Massachusetts), Medpage Today, Healio, The Hill, Bloomberg Law and other outlets nationwide. Long was also quoted in a Barron’s article on the vote.

January 7: Karriem Salaam, MD, a clinical assistant professor of psychiatry, was interviewed in an episode of WHYY’s "Radio Times" about a recent fire in a Philadelphia rowhouse and the individual and collective grief and trauma caused by the tragedy.

January 18: Nancy Spector, MD, the executive director of the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine program, was interviewed for an episode of the Osmosis podcast about how ELAM is working to create gender equity at every level of leadership in academic medicine.

January 18: Daniel Taylor, DO, an associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics, was quoted in a Philadelphia Inquirer article about how rising obesity rates in children can put them at greater COVID risk. The article also ran in the Idaho Statesman, The Wichita Eagle, and the Kansas City Star, among other outlets.

January 18: Sarah Long, MD, a professor in the Department of Pediatrics, was quoted in a WMAQ-TV (NBC-Chicago, Illinois) story about giving teens a booster shot to fight against omicron. Long was also quoted in The Mirror (UK) about whether recipients of the Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine should be concerned about heart inflammation.

April 8: Charles B. April 13: Itzhak Fischer, PhD, professor and chair of the Department of Neurobiology & Anatomy, and Kenny J. Simansky, PhD, senior vice dean for research, were quoted in the Philadelphia Inquirer obituary on the life achievements of Emeritus Professor Elizabeth Hazel Murphy, PhD.

April 14: Katie Farah, MD, an associate professor in the Department of Medicine, was quoted in a Gastroenterology and Endoscopy News article about ways to improve alerts in electronic health records to benefit patient health and safety.

April 20: Sarah Long, MD, a professor in the Department of Pediatrics, was quoted in a Bloomberg Law article, which also ran in the Denver Gazette, Wenatchee World (Wenatchee, Washington), and other outlets, about a decision from the CDC that most Americans under 50 should wait, rather than get a fourth dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Long was also quoted in a MedPage Today article about the recommendation. Additionally, she was quoted in a CNBC article, that also ran on WCAU-TV (NBC10) among other NBC stations, about the latest COVID-19 vaccine guidance from the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.
