Global Health Education Student Experiences Roxane Javadi

Geneva and the Water Jet

Geneva, Switzerland, Doctors Without Borders (Duke Fellowship)
Summer 2017

I spent the bulk of my summer in Geneva working for the Access Campaign of Doctors Without Borders-Medicins Sans Frontieres (MSF). I also took a short course on Global Health Topics as a Duke summer fellow.

Medicins Sans Frontieres's Access Campaign brings together doctors, pharmacists, lawyers and other professionals to advocate for affordable medications, diagnostic tools and vaccines globally. Within their medical dossier, I worked on a research project looking at mass drug administration for neglected tropical diseases. It was quite fruitful, self-driven and an incredible learning experience.

Above all, I'm thankful for the advisors I met at Medicins Sans Frontieres. They really took the time to express how their clinical career fed into the big picture of global health. This experience will be pivotal for me moving forward, both as a future clinician and advocate for global development.
