In partnership with Women in Medicine (WIM)
Unlock the power of allyship to elevate team effectiveness, reduce workplace tension and foster a culture of inclusivity. Research shows that inclusive teams with a myriad of lived experiences make better decisions, enhance patient outcomes and retain top talent. Allyship training equips leaders with essential skills in empathy and emotional intelligence, creating psychologically safe environments that boost productivity and morale.
Join us at Allyship at ELAM and set a new standard for accountability and excellence in health care leadership.
Allyship has a measurable impact on:
Team Effectiveness and Patient Outcomes
- Allies within teams help create psychologically safe environments, which are proven to increase team effectiveness. According to a 2019 study published in Administrative Science Quarterly by Amy Edmondson, psychological safety encourages risk-taking and open communication, which is critical in medical teams where accurate and complete information-sharing is essential for patient safety.
Efficiency and Reduction in Workplace Tension
- Organizations with inclusive cultures experience reduced interpersonal conflicts. A 2021 study in the Journal of Applied Psychology found that allyship behaviors, especially from men in positions of power, reduce workplace incivility and enhance team cohesion, resulting in more time dedicated to productive tasks (Wiley et al., 2021).
Retention and Reduction in Turnover
- Studies indicate that inclusive environments reduce turnover rates, particularly among women and underrepresented groups. The Journal of Organizational Behavior published a meta-analysis in 2018 showing that workplaces with supportive allies saw reduced turnover and increased job satisfaction among marginalized employees (Mor Barak et al., 2018).
Leadership Development
- Allyship training helps men develop essential leadership skills. A study published in Leadership Quarterly in 2021 found that allyship behaviors, such as advocating for underrepresented colleagues and addressing biases, enhance leaders' emotional intelligence and empathy, critical skills for effective health care leadership (Eagly & Carli, 2021).
Reduction of Workplace Tension
- Research from Organizational Psychology and Organizational Behavior in 2019 showed that workplaces that actively encourage allyship, especially among majority group members, see a significant decrease in discrimination complaints and overall workplace tension (Roberson, 2019). Allyship training provides men with tools to recognize and mitigate biases, fostering a respectful work environment.
Allyship training can improve work environments in health care, fostering teamwork, efficiency and respect. This environment, in turn, translates into better patient care, lower turnover, and a pipeline of compassionate, effective leaders. Help your leaders build essential skills for today’s workforce. Our allyship training empowers individuals to lead with empathy, foster inclusive teams, and create workplaces where everyone feels valued and heard.
Featuring gender-in-the-workplace experts Brad Johnson and David Smith, Allyship at ELAM is a longitudinal program that will cite actionable steps for how to effectively engage in gender-focused allyship and lead system change.
