After 2 years (90 hours of classroom time, over 300 hours of clinicals, 3 different hospitals, a lot of little babies seen) on July 1, 2022 I officially received news that I passed my exam to become an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
Around two years ago I began a concentration in human lactation, which enables you to become an IBCLC. As someone who hopes to have a future as a pediatric dietitian, candidly, this started as a good way to use some of my free electives. I did not expect to find a passion for maternal and childhood health the way I did and this has dramatically aided in shaping my future career path. Two years ago I knew virtually nothing about breastfeeding especially as someone who hadn’t had children yet.
The Human Lactation Consultant Certification program has challenged the way I think about health care, problem-solving and the value of individualized patient care. I have been fortunate enough to have incredible mentors /preceptors, amazing classmates and I have had the opportunity to have heard from world renowned speakers in the field.
I’m excited to be able to finally introduce myself as Morgan Price, IBCLC!
