James A. Batts, Jr. joined the staff at the Medical College of Pennsylvania (MCP) in 1979 and retired in 1989 as senior attending physician and professor emeritus in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Batts had an interest in increasing the number of underrepresented medical students and regularly recruited and mentored students. Each year, Dr. Batts hosted a party at his own expense for underrepresented students and faculty at MCP. This year, we are returning to the tradition of naming the Diversity Dinner in his honor.

The 2023 Batts Diversity Dinner is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the graduating students who are underrepresented in medicine. The celebration will also act as a fundraiser to raise money for the Dr. James A. Batts Student Fund which will support students with their education expenses, fees to attend conferences, test preparation materials and tuition support. More information on where to donate will be coming shortly. For now, don't forget to mark your calendars and we hope to see you on May 10!
