Drexel University College of Medicine was proud to be one of four Philadelphia-based medical schools co-hosting the 2022 Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) National & Northeast Regional Conference, along with the College’s LMSA chapter. The conference marked LMSA’s 50th year working to connect current and future physicians to help increase opportunity for physicians from communities historically underrepresented in medicine, and to help serve and decrease health disparities for underserved communities.

The LMSA National Conference took place from March 2 to March 6 at Philadelphia’s Logan Hotel. Students from the College of Medicine’s LSMA chapter helped promote the conference and organize events, from a gala to a networking event at The Mütter Museum.

During the conference, College of Medicine faculty and students promoted the MD Program and pre-med pre-health program, presented research and more.

The College’s LMSA chapter won the 50 Años de Comunidad Host Award, as well as a Membership Scholarship Award to cover the chapter’s membership fees. Justin M. Camacho, MD Program Class of 2025 and current LMSA chapter co-president, won the conference’s Excellence in Research award. David Marulanda, MD Program Class of 2024 and former LMSA chapter co-president, won the Planning Committee award for his work as a 2022 National Conference Chair.

Additionally, students and faculty gave prospective students a tour of the Queen Lane campus. The tour included an admissions panel as well as presentations from the Legacy Center on the College’s diverse history.
