Women's Health Seminar Series

The Women's Health Seminar Series is an annual series consisting of monthly seminars providing in-depth learning on a broad range of women's health and health equity topics. The topics are focused on the interests of first- and second-year medical students but are open to all medical students and other members of the College of Medicine community.

Sex and Gender Medicine Education and Resources

Sex and gender medicine topics are integrated into the MD Program curriculum during the following courses: Foundations of Patient Care; Health Advocacy Practicum; Human Disease Systems; and Case-Based Learning. Among the topics included are:

  • Introduction to sex and gender medicine
  • Sex/gender differences in cardiac disease
  • Sex/gender differences in the diagnosis and treatment of pain
  • Intimate partner violence
  • Approach to the diagnosis and management of victims of sexual assault
  • Eating disorders
  • Cultural diversity
  • Role of culture in medical education and clinical care
  • Taking a sexual history
  • LGBTQ health

Past Activities and Projects

WHEP has initiated multiple health education programs and community-based projects that involved the participation of local community members. Some past projects include:

  • Listen, Little Sister – an innovative health education intervention designed by WHEP to decrease high risk behavior in preteens and teens by an all-day session with women and their daughters.
  • Menopause Education Tool – an interactive health education project with community input that evaluated the utility of menopause health risk awareness and developed an assessment tool.
  • An NIH (NHLBI/OWH) sponsored curricular dissemination program.
  • Philadelphia UJIMA
