Subscription Information for Drexel Mail Lists
Drexel IT maintains and distributes messages to three types of mailing lists:
- Drexel Official Mail
- Drexel Announcement Mail
- Drexel Special Mail
These types of lists are differentiated by how your address is subscribed, and unsubscription options (if any—see below).
You can recognize these mailings by the text of the footer.
Drexel Opt-In Lists
Drexel IT also manages "opt-in" lists, which can be subscribed to by sending a request to listreq@drexel.edu. Opt-in lists include:
Drexel Official Mail
Used for: Essential messages to the Drexel community. These include:
- policies
- job requirements
- emergencies
- tax information
- other essential information
Subscription: All active members of the Drexel community must receive these messages. Subscription takes place automatically.
Unsubscription: Your Drexel address remains subscribed until you are no longer active with Drexel.
Drexel Announcement Mail
Used for: Non-essential (for-your-benefit) messages to the Drexel community. These include:
- workshop announcements
- fraternity/sorority events
- community service opportunities
- research studies and grants
- road closures
Subscription: New members of the Drexel community are automatically subscribed.
Unsubscription: Log in with your DrexelOne credentials at http://drexel.edu/it/subscriptions. If later you change your mind, you can resubscribe here, too.
Drexel Special Mail
Used for: Messages sent to an interdepartmentally-obtained list of addresses, usually only once or twice, but sometimes more often. The lists themselves are “empty shells” that IT wipes and repopulates for each special mailing.
Subscription: Other departments or individuals provide IT with the list of addresses to send their message to.
Unsubscription: Since Special Mail lists are repopulated for each message, it might not be possible to unsubscribe. Reply to the message to find out how your address was obtained, and if it can be removed from future iterations of the unwanted message.
